Fire, Trumpet, and being a single mom...

The fire is certainly not out, but it is getting more contained, and now that there is a ton of resources helping out, my firefighter is home. He may have to go back out, but today and yesterday, he has been home. I have to say I really did miss him, and worried, because even though he's gone most of the day when he's working, its scheduled. This call out and never know when he'll be back stuff really stinks, it could be 9 pm it could be 2 am. You just never know, you just look up at the sky and ask yourself "is it too windy", "which way is the wind blowing" , "how much smoke is up there today", and most of all "please oh please make good decisions." The one thing I've really learned from all this, is I don't think I could make it as a single mom. To much was relying my shoulders. Ty starts band this year, which means buying an instrument. About a week ago Kenneth and I discussed it, and I thought from my end of the conversation that Kenneth would take care of it. Well he wasn't here when the big day came. So I went OH CRAP!!! I took Ty and of course the girls down to the school gym to purchase a trumpet. $1200.00, you've got to be kidding me. And this is where my gut turned inside out. Because nothing that a ten year old is going to be responsible for should cost this much money. Lucky for me a good friend and her husband, talked to the music teacher got a website and shared this information because as I catch my dear Kasey out of the corner of my eye on the top of the bleachers getting ready to run across, I was in no mood to spend a grand on a trumpet. I came home and ordered one saving around $400. I am still not sure why the band teacher doesn't make this site public knowledge. That is too big of a decision for me to make, and I feel so grateful that most of the time I don't have to.

$800! Ouch! It's amazing what we do for our kids.

That kid better end up a master concert trumpeter! ;)

wow, yeah search for a different trumpet. My first one was around maybe $300.00 total. Once dedication set in and after 6 years of playing I got a silver one for around $1800.00. I think you can even get a beginners cheap trumpet at wal-mart for around $150. If you already bought one great, if not, I have an extra one I am willing to sell for low prices. Hooray for trumpets, they ROCK!!
