Kick the habit...

I had planned last Wednesday to come on here and toot my own horn. I had planned to brag how I'd earned a prize for donating blood so many times. I was feeling very proud of myself in my stick to itness. Unfortunately my plans came to a screeching halt when I went to give blood, and the little finger prick blood drop floated back to the top. That was not part of my plans. It upsets me very much. I know I can fix this, but I need some help, because the culprit I'm told could be the large quantities of caffeine (in the form of Coca Cola) I drink. I have been informed it robs the body of iron. So I have 2 months to get off the stuff and get my body iron enriched so I can give blood in June, wish me luck, I need it. It may seem like a small thing, but its something that's dear to me, so I need to be able to contribute in this way.

You can do it. I know how important giving blood is to you. You'll make it.

Hm, never given blood, because even without the large amounts of caffeine I consume (not in the form of coke, either) I am close to being anemic. My iron is especially low, but not to danger zone, yet.
You CAN kick the soda habit, at least the caffeine part... have you tried caffeine free coca cola?
Good Luck!

I'm really feeling for you. I know I had a horrible time getting off Pepsi, a habit that I started in Jr High and continued with until 2 years ago.. The caffine withdrawl was a nightmare, between feeling run down and having awful headaches. It took a month before my body began to adjust. It's important that you get all the Coke out of your house so you won't have it to tempt you. But you can do it!! I know you can!!! And you really will feel better once you do...

mountain dew addict. i love that stuff. the only way i don't get fully addicted is that soda is not allowed in our house. if it was, i would sit around and drink nothing else. caffienated sodas are only drank when we go out to eat. give that a shot. if that doesn't work, try switching to root beer, at least it is still brown and has carbination.

Wow! That is some habit! I'm amazed at these stories. My teeth start to hurt and I feel my pancreas or something give out if I have a whole pop! Sounds like a habit that could really hurt you in the long run and is best kicking it to the curb now. So I'm pulling for you to do just that and you can be on your way to saving lives!

Be careful not to drink Barg's root beer though as it does have caffeine. Grandma C used to love coke - she would get up in the morning and pour two cans into her big mug. Even growing up, we rarely had soda but she always had coke in the house for her. She was probably about 70 when her and Bri made a committment that they wouldn't drink caffeine beverages - if she can do it - so can you.
